Peer Review Response

Whilst writing my first project for my Writing 110 class we were tasked with peer reviewing someone in the class’s writing and then collaborating with each other to make our writing better. We all wrote feedback as to what we believed could’ve been better in one’s piece. Personally I found that the few comments that were beneficial for me were the ones that told me that I could add a few more specific text citations and examples to engage the reader more in certain areas. The other comments that were beneficial were the positive ones that cheered on writing that excelled. It was also valuable to write comments of my own on another person’s writing as I as able to form takeaways from their writing. One key takeaway I had, was the contribution of struggle and the addition of what each different text meant and was interpreted as.

The biggest challenges I faced during this revision process was trying to develop comments that got my point across without being to harsh or repetitive. I didn’t have to much material to work with as I was only reviewing a paragraph, so trying not to be repetitive was difficult for me. There weren’t may parts that I could criticize differently than others as they followed the same concept. So I decided to focus on how integrating different resources and quotes could develop the writing further. Being harsh is something that I try to avoid and I feel like sometimes when reviewing it is hard to try to not be harsh when making comments on how writers should improve. But, I feel like I was able to make them in such a way that they felt more helpful than harmful. Next time I might go a little more in depth in some areas like, previewing, personal experience and quote connections, and even quote specifications.
